About Upskilled Mamas

You found us! UpskilledMamas.com is a resource for work-at-home moms who want to learn different ways to quickly earn an income for their households. This past year has been full of challenges and a lot of us have found ourselves trying to balance work demands with exponentially greater home demands. In many cases, we (moms) have had to ditch our regular 9 to 5 jobs (because sanity) and play a greater role in our kids’ formal education. But there are plenty of ways you can stay home, be Mom, and still earn money. Yay!

Whether you’re home because you’ve chosen to homeschool or because the pandemic has shut down your kids’ school, generating revenue streams from home can have a huge impact on your household and your confidence. Some of us just need to know how to make extra money by increasing our skillsets. Whatever your reason for being here, I’m glad you found us.

Now, Here’s What You Probably Want to Know About Me

I’m an OG work-at-home mom… I’m Sorilbran, and I’ve been working from home with my kids for MOST of my adult life. For a while, I was a stay-at-home mom, venturing out into the workforce once my kids were old enough to attend school (which is crazy-staggered since my kids are now 25, 18, 7, and 4.)

I have an awesome day job, but I’ve also been a freelance writer for 11 years… Since 2010, I’ve consistently worked as a freelance writer and content strategist. Up until 2018, I was actually a full-time freelance writer. In 2018, my favorite freelance writing client, The Shelf offered me a full-time job as the head of content marketing (I liken myself to Liz Lemon but without Jack or Lutz or Kenneth or Dotcom or the wacky team). So, I know a little something about nailing the freelance experience, both for myself and my clients. (I also know quite a bit about creating content, marketing, SEO, content funnels, and other marketing buzzwords).

I have two core values about freelancing… First, my saving grace when I freelanced full-time was that I was able to convert about 1 in every 3 freelance gigs I landed on Upwork into repeat clients that I served OFF the expensive gig platform (because 20% is insane, doc). I mastered the art of the proposal and introductory letter, which is far more important than your actual resume, let me tell you.

The other thing I do really well is staying up-to-date on the trends that are happening in my industry. How? Two words: YouTube University. In fact, as I pen this About page, it’s 11:42 pm and while I braided my 7 year-old’s hair, I listened to two hours of Income School as a refresher on writing articles quickly, doing keyword research, and the three types of articles to write for rank quickly on Google.

Continuing education is my constant companion.

So, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I hope you find value on UpskilledMamas.com as I pour out everything I’ve gleaned to help a fellow mom.
